Winter Landscape
In this one day workshop you will create a winter scene, working with Donna to develop your creative skills, and using hand dyed fabrics and free motion embroidery to create your piece.
All materials and equipment provided, basic sewing machine knowledge is useful but not essential!
3 Session Free Motion Embroidery Course with Donna Cheshire (Copy)
In this three week course you will learn how to adapt a domestic sewing machine so that you can do free motion embroidery. You will learn how to balance stitch speed with hand control in order to stitch smoothly in all directions. You will create a sample book full of your experiments with Free Motion Embroidery, including appliqué, lettering, drawing, using soluble and bonded fabrics, and creating texture with top and bottom threads. You will gain confidence in using your sewing machine for Free Motion Embroidery and in developing textile art ideas.
This course is suitable for absolute beginners and those with some sewing machine experience.
Abstracting To Stitch
During this full-day workshop, textile artist Donna Cheshire will guide you through her process of creating textile artworks from abstract compositions:
In the morning, inspired by photographs and secondary sources such as images from websites or magazines, you will create exciting landscape imagery using various expressive techniques such as collaging, gestural mark making and painting with a wide range of implements.
You will develop a particular mood in the work, trying to capture the emotional and physical responses to the chosen landscape through composition and processes used.
In the afternoon, you will select imagery from your experiments and develop these into an abstract textile piece, using appliqué, stitch and mixed media.

Free Motion Embroidery - 3 week course
The course will run on three Wednesday mornings in May, starting on 6th and continuing on the 13th and 20th.

Spring Art Fair
The famous Hearth Spring Art Fair and Open Studios is back this year with an impressive line up of artists and makers. The resident artists will all open their studios for the weekend with new displays of their latest work. There will be several guest artists in the hall, courtyard and our new "hub", all ready to welcome you with a wide range of art and craft handmade here in the North East.
Donna will be bringing a range of original textile art, giclée prints and greetings cards to the Art Fair.
ArtisanMadeUK
Artisan Made UK (AMUK) began showcasing exceptional craft making talent from around the country in 2023. I will be returning to this trade event in 2026
Based in North Yorkshire, Artisan Made UK takes place at Skipton Auction Mart and is run by the organisers of the long standing and well regarded Art in the Pen and Crafts in the Pen.
Spring Landscape Workshop
In this one day workshop Donna will guide you through the making of a stitched landscape. You will be provided with all the materials that you need for the workshop and sewing machines are provided - although you can bring your own - just call and let the gallery know.
Donna will provide designs for you to work from and will show you step by step how to create a Spring landscape using hand dyed fabrics and free machine embroidery.
Abstract Textiles
We will start the day with paint and collage, exploring ways to create abstract compositions that we will then interpret in fabric and stitch.
Donna will provide all materials and equipment for this workshop. You might want to bring a painting shirt or apron to protect your clothes!
Donna is a skilled workshop leader and will encourage you to experiment in this workshop as you explore ways to make exciting abstract textiles.
